Its been a while since our last writing, but we are participating in Blog Action Day 2008! The topic this year is poverty and OPOL is launching it’s Change for Change program. It may start out slow, but keep coming back for updates to the program. Thanks for reading and we hope to hear from you, letting us know how much you donated to your favorite charity.

OPOL’s Change for Change Program
One dollar per year, can you afford it? Poverty is not just something that affects people outside the United States, it affects the world! Helping to fight poverty doesn’t have to break your bank account either. Here is an idea for us all to consider.
One dollar per year is equal to 0.0833 cents per month. That amount of money can probably be found in your couch cushions or underneath one of your car seats. One dollar per year may not sound like much, but when a lot of people team up together, it adds up.
But don’t let us stop you from giving more! One dollar per year is what we are asking you donate to a charity, but if you would like to pledge more, please do so. Could you imagine if everyone at your place of work, church, school, or even your city, gave just one dollar per year for the cause? Or perhaps, one dollar per month, twelve dollars per year, granted you would have to lay off fast-food twice in a year’s time!
Pennies make dollars, and in our case, dollars make change. Even 1,000 people giving one dollar per year is better than nothing. Try to imagine if I, and you, could get a fraction of the U.S. population to pledge one dollar per year. Let’s say, we could get just 1% of the population to donate one dollar for the year. At the time of this writing the population was projected to be 305,417,080*, so that’s $3,054,170.80 per year. Look at how much we could do with over three million dollars!
Now, imagine if 50% of the population would donate just one dollar for the year. That would be $152,708,540. For every dollar matched with a larger amount the giving is exponential, say you do skip out on that one fast food meal for the year, about 5 dollars. If 50% of the population gave just 5 dollars for the year, our efforts would yield $763,542,700, almost 1 billion dollars. Wow, imagine how many families we could cloth and feed, not only in the United States, but the world.
Help OPOL make a change by donating, get your family, friends, and other organizations to donate their change as well. Spread the word by mouth, pass this article along. We will be providing promotional materials in the near future, so direct everyone back to the OPOL website.
